Foregound and Background
Colors Explained
!
by Sandy

Foreground and Background colors have multiple meanings, but for our purposes, it's the colors you use with each tool. When you look at your Color Box, you'll see two small boxes over the top of the rainbow of choices and below it. These indicate what your Foreground and Background colors are. The Foreground color is always the one on the left or top and is associated with the LEFT click of your mouse button. The Background color is always on the right or bottom and is associated with the RIGHT click of your mouse button. So - when you are asked to flood with the foreground color, you check to make sure the LEFT box is the right color and you LEFT click to fill the space. When you are asked to flood with the background color, you check to make sure the RIGHT box is the right color and you RIGHT click to fill the space. --sunni

If you want to use the colour you have set for the foreground, use the left click button with the floodfill tool. If you want to use the background colour to fill something, use the right click button.  If you are using a shape in your image - say a rectangle, you have the border around the rectangle set to the foreground colour and the inside of the rectangle will be filled with the background colour.

If you want no colour on the inside of the rectangle, you can null the background by holding your mouse over the background swatch and clicking on the circle with the line through it, and your shape will end up only with a border around it and transparent in the middle.

Alternatively, if you don't want a border around your shape at all, then you null the foreground colour and you end up with a shape without a border. frgd-bkgd4.jpg (5915 bytes)

I hope this answers your questions.
