SORTING MAIL IN OUTLOOK EXPRESS
by Maureen Williams

I was speaking with a member who was saying she had received so much mail she didn't know how to get through it all. I asked if she knew how to sort her mail as it came into her Inbox to make it easier to know which mail to read first and those emails that could be left until later.

This short housekeeping tutorial is aimed at those who get lots of mail from different groups or individuals, to give them a way to keep it tidy.

Firstly, you will need to create a new folder under your Inbox or in the body of Outlook Express if you prefer.

Right click on the Inbox (or Local Folders if you prefer) and select New Folder. Enter a name for the folder and click OK

Now go to Tools > Message Rules > Mail > New

Enter the desired rules - for Group mail I select the Subject Line as the condition
as the mail will be coming from different people.

If you get lots of mail from a particular person or email address select the From line.

In Box 3 - Rule Description click where it says Subject and enter the details from the
Subject of a group message. This must be exactly as shown in a message.

Click on the Folder line and select the desired folder,
give the rule a name and then click OK.

You can now apply the rule to sort existing mail into the new folder.
Click on the desired rule and click on Apply Now.

In the box that opens tick the "Include subfolders" box and click on Apply Now.

If you have entered the details correctly the mail for the designated rule will now be transferred
to the relevant folder. Repeat the procedure for all the the folders you wish to use.

Please help me keep this site up and running....
ANYTHING is appreciated, thank you so much!
