Saving Tubes
by Sunni

Saving tubes in PSPv7 has stumped a few students. So let's take a closer look at how it is done.

tubes01.jpg (15313 bytes)Mouse up to the top Menu bar and click on FILE. Scroll down to EXPORT and click on the little black arrow.

tubes02.jpg (17134 bytes)Scroll down to PICTURE TUBE... and click on that. This brings up the picture tube window.

tubes03.jpg (20869 bytes)CELL ARRANGEMENT
Tubes are laid out in a table or grid. Single cell tubes would have settings like the one shown in the picture. Tubes with more than one image (multiple cell) will have a specified number of cells across and down, depending on how you have them arranged in the image you are working on. Cell width and height is determined in the size of grid you set in your preferences. To find that, you would mouse up to your top menu and select FILE / PREFERENCES... / GENERAL PROGRAM PREFERENCES and then click on the Rulers and Units tab. See the next figure below.

NAMING THE TUBE
The bottom right sector is also where you name the tube. When you first open this window, the Tube name: field is empty. As you type in the name you want, the File name: will automatically type along with you as shown in the cut out in the figure above.tubes03b.jpg (27837 bytes)

tubes04.jpg (18721 bytes)PLACEMENT OPTIONS:
This is applicable to multiple cell tubes. You have several options for how the tube behaves when you apply it to your images.

Random: is just that. Let's say there are four images in a tube. They are all four in a single row. The first image is #1, the second is #2, etc. Random does not select them in order, just slapping them down higgledy-piggledy as you click or drag your mouse.

Continuous: The images are placed in sequence, #1 first, #2, #3 then #4.

tubes05.jpg (21164 bytes)Step size: is the distance in pixels from one tube to another as you drag your mouse around your working image.

SELECTION MODE is fun!

Random is like Random in Placement mode.

Incremental is equal to Continuous.

Angular: Drag your mouse from left to right and get one image, right to left get another, up to down yet another and down to up another yet!

Pressure: Just one image from the tube.

Velocity: You'll get several of one image, then several of the next and so on. Depending on how slow or fast you drag it, you'll get a different number of repeated images.

When you've set all your preferences on how the tube should behave, click on OK. This will return you to your working image which you can now close, as it is no longer needed. It is unnecessary to save the working image as you now have it saved for posterity as a tube!

Now - Where do you find your tubes and how do you choose the one you want? Go to the NEXT PAGE to find out!!
