Colouring Dingbats

Challenge 1 ] Challenge 2 ] [ Challenge 3 ] Challenge 4 ] Challenge 5 ] Challenge 6 ] Challenge 7 ]

This is your challenge should you choose to accept it.

Use any letter from the Pretty Pottery dingbat font to make a pottery urn, vase or jug.

You may colour and decorate your creation in any manner you choose.
You may also use any other PSP effects or filters of your choice to complete your image

Feel free to use any third party plug-ins,

Please share the steps, filters or functions used with the group so others
can experiment and learn from your creative combinations if they wish.

This is an example to show you what I mean.

In this example, using the letter f, I chose my colour for the Fill (background colour)
with a Null Stroke (foreground). I erased the lines I didn't want
and then flood filled the main part of the vase with the same background colour.

I applied the Eye Candy 3.0 Glass plug-in using the default setting.
Although I used a lighter red (# 86101E) for my vase, the Glass filter changed the
finished colour to this rich colour. Next I applied a small tube for decoration.

I used the Soften Brush to soften around the edges of the urn to get rid of the jaggies
and then applied a perspective drop shadow from Eye Candy.

Hints and Tips
  • Pretty Pottery - uses lower case letters a-z only.
  • I started with a new image 300 x 400  and Font size of 250
this gave me plenty of room to move around.
  • I set the Stroke to Null and the Fill to White. This gave me the outline of the pot
and I was then able to select different parts to colour
or alternatively, flood fill with white to apply SBP for an all over texture.

  • If you need instructions for colouring a dingbat font my tutorials,
Dingbat Magic or Creating Cameos, will give you the basics of this technique.
I hope you have as much fun playing with these as I have - be warned though - it's very addictive!.

Will you accept the Challenge???
