Creating a Room

This is your challenge should you choose to accept it.

While looking through some files on my computer  I found a collection of furniture tubes which took my eye some time ago. I have previously used this challenge in another group and I thought it might be fun for you to make a room of your choice as well.  This week we will concentrate on constructing the room and then next week the decoration of our room

Let your imagination run free!

Download the zip of selections for three different room appearances
Glass Door tube zip
Feel free to create your own walls, etc if you wish.
To help you in your quest here are a few web sites you might like to visit.

To create the perspective on the floor I used MuRa's Meister Perspective Tiling - it's a free filter you can get from here.  http://www.geocities.com/murakuma/mmplugins.html

FURNITURE TUBES SITE

This one isn't a tube site but there's some nice stuff there if you don't mind cleaning your own images.  http://www.nfm.com/furniture_prod.asp?cat=37

Please share the steps, filters or functions used with the group so others
can experiment and learn from your creative combinations if they wish.

This is an example to show you what I mean.

This is the basic room before adding wallpaper and carpet. The door has been positioned in place but the wall layers haven't been cut out as yet. Same with the window panes.

Hints & Tips
Building the Room

  • These are the image sizes I used to create the selections - gives you plenty of room to move around. Don't forget to resize your room when you have finished, before sending to the group.

    2 wall room - 650 x 500 transparent image
    3 wall room - 900 x 500 transparent image
    4 wall room - 900 x 500 transparent image

  • The selections are numbered in order of use - create a new layer for each selection or additional step - then you can change the paint or wall paper or move the furniture if the mood takes you.

  • Brighten one wall (Adjust, Brightness & Contrast) by 16% to highlight the corner of the room.

  • To get the perspective for striped or floral wall paper first add the required selection and flood fill with a solid colour (say white) then, using the selection tool, draw a rectangle using the longest side as a guide. Take the rectangle out to the length of the selection and flood fill with your desired pattern.
Now select the rectangle with the Deformation tool, hold down the Shift key and skew the sides to match the selection by pushing on one of the corners. Experiment with the Deformation tool - you can do all sorts of things with it. Also play with the Ctrl key as well to see what that does.

  • For the open door in the 2 wall room I cut out the door portion of the glass door tube and pasted it back as a new layer. I then used the Deformation tool to skew the door.

  • The open glass door in the alternative 2 wall and the 4 wall rooms was achieved by creating  a mirror image (Image, Mirror) and then skewed as required.

  • For the background behind effects like the open glass door look for pictures with balconies, patios or terraces in the foreground. These can then be moved into position to make it appear you are walking out onto the tiles rather than the door opening onto grass.

  • I found the lace curtains (single windows) from the lace site shown above and then copied and mirrored to get the double width covering. A couple of them required some cloning to get rid of unwanted bits.

Will you accept the Challenge???
